Er:YAG and Er,Cr:YSGG Lasers

  • Theoretical background, clinical indications, skill training and demo treatments
  • Biophysical background (absorption and transmission in various types of tissue)
  • Clinically important for e.g. periodontics, implantology, endodontics, hard and soft-tissue surgery, cavity preparation and cariology

GRADUATION CEREMONY

After successful completion of the course, participants receive a Mastership Certificate/Diploma from RWTH Aachen University identifying them as a dental laser specialist, as well as an additional Laser Safety Officer certificate.




FURTHER STUDIES

 

Completion of the Mastership course may be credited towards modules three (Erbium Lasers) and five (Diode Lasers,Photodynamic Therapy) of the Masters (M.Sc.) Degree programme, internationally recognised, accredited in Germany and the European Union, as well all countries that are signatories of the "Washington Accord". View Course Brochure 


The use of lasers in dentistry has now become a part of daily clinical practice. This Aachen Dental Laser Center (AALZ) course is a one-year career-accompanying clinical specialisation course in laser dentistry which can be combined with the full MSc. Degree. This program addresses practicing and approbated dental professionals interested in increasing their knowledge, and specialise in laser-supported therapies in dentistry, to keep them abreast with the latest and most advanced technology in dentistry.  The course offers dentists the opportunity to become highly qualified specialists in the area of laser therapy.

The Mastership Course will cover four modules, including the realisation of five clinical laser cases. Beside the time of presence in class, an internet-based university platform supports the participants in home-learning between modules as needed.

The certificate/diploma "Mastership Status Laser Therapy in Dentistry" is taught, examined and awarded by the university of excellence, RWTH  Aachen University, Aachen of Germany. This programme is brought to South Africa by SciVision Medical for the benefit of local dental practitioners and specialists. The course is also open to a limited number of international delegates.

The dynamic lecturing team consisting of Physicist and Associate Professor, Dr. rer. medic. Rene Franzen and PhD. Dr Miguel Martins will host the Mastership Course live and in-person in South Africa. Together, they take participants on a  fascinating and revolutionary laser learning journey that will transform daily practice in fascinating ways with the adjunct of lasers.

  • Completion of the Mastership course may be credited towards modules three (Erbium  Lasers) and five (Diode Lasers, Photodynamic Therapy) of the MSc. programme.
  • After successful graduation, the participant can  apply to upgrade to the 2-year module based Master of Science course  "Lasers in Dentistry" by RWTH Aachen University. Achievements will be recognised and the fellowship fees for the recognised modules will be deducted from the total MSc. fees.   • Laser units will be available to participants needing lasers to present the five clinical cases by BIOLASE / SciVision in South Africa, Denmark, Norway or Sweden.
  • The  participants will be connected to the AALZ e-learning homework network  between the modules and integrated into hands-on training programs.
  • The final exam (module IV) includes the presentation of 5 clinical cases and a written multiple choice test.
  • The course will have a total amount of 390 hours workload and 96 presence hours.
  • The course language is English.
