  • and bone surgical procedures and many others.

As a kiddies-focused dental practice, providing comprehensive and the most minimally invasive, advanced dental treatments is of utmost importance at Dr Tooth Little.  Lasers for use in dermatology, ophthalmology and cosmetics have been around for years and the technology has tremendously advanced medical possibilities with accuracy and precision with reduced trauma. Following recent advanced training in Lasers in Dentistry, Dr Surine Barnes, owner of Dr Tooth Little has committed to equipping their practice with the most innovative technology and techniques now available in modern dentistry for the benefit of their patients.

They are thrilled to announce that Dr Tooth Little now offers Laser Dentistry with the highly acclaimed Waterlase Dental Laser from BIOLASE Technologies in California. Waterlase Dentistry is one of the most advanced dental treatments available today, and uses a patented technology that combines focused laser energy with a gentle spray of water for a highly precise, exceptionally gentle dental experience. Patients of all ages can look forward to less injections with less need for local anesthesia, less use of the high-speed drill, less stitches and fewer numb lips!

What is Waterlase?

The Waterlase being an all-tissue laser, is able to remove tooth enamel decay (the hardest substance in the body), ‘cut’ bone and gum tissue very precisely while leaving surrounding areas unaffected with far less chance of hairline cracks that drills tend to cause. This conserves more of the precious tooth structure you were born with, helping you to maintain your natural teeth longer. The Waterlase also disinfects the surface. And with less need for the traditional drill, heat, vibration and pressure, the primary causes of pain are avoided. Therefore, many dental procedures can be performed virtually pain-free with the Waterlase. By using less anaesthesia, Dr Barnes and her laser dentists can also save a lot of time, making procedures quicker or get a whole lot more done in one appointment.

Additionally, with the Waterlase’ conservative and precise cutting action, less swelling and less bleeding is experienced on gum procedures such as shaping gums, removing oral growths or excess tissue in a patient's mouth including gum tissue over an unerupted tooth, frenectomies, tongue ties and more. In these types of procedures, lasers seal blood vessels to reduce bleeding and need for stitches, they seal lymphatic vessels to decrease post-surgical swelling and speed up recovery, they also seal nerve fibres to reduce pain and need for medication in many cases, with the added advantage of laser disinfection at the treatment site. It’s just a great way to get your dentistry done!

The cleaning and disinfecting power of the Waterlase with various tips and possibilities helps treat Peri-Implantitis, Gum Disease and Endodontics (faster and with less need for chemicals).  Periodontal disease treatment can help stimulate bone regeneration, thereby contributing towards saving teeth rather than extracting.

Waterlase, the New Gold Standard in Paediatric Dentistry?

While many adults feel like a kid at the thought of visiting the dentist, this is something of the past with Waterlase Dentistry, often coining the phrase, “No Fear Dentistry!” Those who suffer from anxiety due to past dental experiences or fear of needles are more likely to feel calm and relaxed when receiving treatment with the gentle Waterlase laser system.

Paediatric Procedures Recommended with Waterlase:

  • Infant and child frenectomy (tongue-tie)
  • Exposure of unerupted teeth (unable to break out from the gum area)
  • Sealants (preventive dental treatment to protect tooth surfaces)
  • Fillings (extent of decay on tooth structure)
  • Vital pulpotomy (removal of pulp tissue)

There’s more…. and it’s Epic!

Dr Tooth Little has taken their laser technology a step up by combing their Waterlase with the BIOLASE Epic Diode Laser for even more benefits in laser treatments. For example, based on clinical studies, the Epic Diode Laser with its 940nm wavelength is the deepest penetrating wavelength for disinfection in root canals, with studies showing a 99.9% disinfection at a 1000 micron depth into lateral root canals – way beyond the traditional chemicals used that can only disinfect up to approximately 100-350 microns into lateral dentin tubules. Furthermore, the brilliance of the Epic Laser advances the provision of the full spectrum of laser dentistry by adding the benefits of fast pain relief and truly amazing biostimulation to stimulate healing. It is a wonderful tool for treating myofascial pain, TMJ pain (Temporomandibular Joint), sensitive teeth or the pain of cold sores and fever blisters, as well as helping to restore nerve damage.

 Laser Teeth Whitening

Patients wanting to brighten their smiles can also look forward to faster and less painful (or pain-free in most cases) Laser Teeth Whitening in approximately 30 minutes with the small Epic Laser used in combination with the special LaserWhite whitening gel.
